WhatsApp is not only the most used messaging application in the world. Little by little, it is also becoming the default calling service for hundreds of thousands of people around the world. And lucky for them, WhatsApp calling is about to get even better.
A new app update is on its way to iOS users –and, probably, Android users soon as well–, to introduce a completely revamped interface to the voice calling function, as well as the ability to participate in group calls with up to 32 people.
An image published by WhatsApp itself reflects the news that will come to voice calls. Among them, we find a new interface based on “boxes” that represent each participant, as well as sound waves that indicate which person is speaking at each moment. A few weeks ago, we were able to see screenshots reflecting these same changes.
In addition to that, the limit of people who can participate in a voice call has been expanded, reaching 32 participants. In this way, WhatsApp aspires to offer an alternative to services such as Twitter’s “Spaces”, or Telegram’s group voice chats.
For now, the news is only available in version 22.8.80 of WhatsApp for iOS, which can already be downloaded through the App Store. Soon, the version of WhatsApp for Android will introduce the same changes, and it is expected that the WhatsApp client for the desktop will also introduce support for 32 participants in voice calls, as well as the new interface that we see today for the first time.
