Gone are the days when Twitter functioned as a friendly community with a wide horizon of content to discover.
What started as a microblogging platform with interesting experiments in storytelling, literary exploration, and information flow the moment it emerged, ended up turning into something radically different.
Today Twitter is still there, its popularity is undeniable and those of us who keep an account on the social network is largely due to the affection and nostalgia of those yesterdays, confined to our networks of trusted followers.
But aside from that, there are hordes of bots, sock puppets, trolls, fake accounts for advertising or customer service purposes, and a long etcetera that have made this platform much denser.
That is why the company behind Twitter has tried to implement some changes that make it more attractive. But they just made a brutal mistake: they messed with the chronological feed.
Twitter emulates Instagram and the community forces them to return the old interface
As we had already reported, a few days ago the people of Twitter had the great idea of implementing a daring change in the interface of their social network.
They decided to follow in the footsteps of Instagram and integrate two timelines: the traditional reverse chronological one that had always existed and a new one where it showed tweets based on an algorithm that showed posts according to interests, likes and fixations.
The idea from the beginning fragmented the community, for some it sounded aberrant and for others, it looked interesting, at least enough to try it.
But there was one final mistake that blew everything up when a couple of days ago they released the change in the iOS app: the feed based on the algorithm became the central part of the interface, relegating the timeline to a secondary tab. classic twitter.
This detail caused a brutal wave of criticism, claims, complaints and demands on the social network itself to eliminate all that and return to the original design. So the social network had no choice but to listen and obey:
“We hear you: some of you always want to see the latest Tweets first. We’ve changed the timeline and removed the tabbed experience for now while we explore other options.”
This is what the publication indicates in the official account of the social network itself, where they highlight that they have listened to the reactions of their community and have withdrawn the algorithm-based timeline.
It is an interesting victory but it does not represent a break. Since the company itself has highlighted that they will continue to look for new changes.
