Puma reissues the iconic Ultra 1.3 and Future 1.2 boots with recycled materials

Sports brand Puma has reissued its successful Ultra 1.3 and Future 1.2 football boots to make them more sustainable through the use of recycled materials, thanks to a collaboration with UK-based environmental company First Mile, according to a statement.

The boots included in the new ‘First Mile Pack’ are made from yarn recycled from plastic bottles. The collection of these bottles has been in charge of the group that is part of First Mile, an initiative that aims to generate a positive social impact by strengthening the microeconomies of Honduras, Haiti and Taiwan.

Puma has been collaborating with First Mile since 2019, but it is the first time that the brand has used recycled yarns from its partner in its football boots. First Mile collectors collect plastic bottles, thus preventing them from ending up in landfills or in the oceans.

Supporting the environment

Every purchase of First Mile products supports the creation of local opportunities, generating a positive impact by providing sustainable employment and reducing environmental waste.

Puma uses recycled yarns from post-consumer plastic collected by First Mile in Taiwan. The plastic is sorted, cleaned, shredded and turned into yarn and finally woven into an elastic fabric that, on this occasion, has made it possible to create faster and lighter football boots.

Through its Forever Better sustainability strategy, Puma has set itself 10 goals to improve its environmental impact. The company plans to make 9 out of 10 products more sustainable by 2025.

21% plastic

The Ultra 1.3 contains 21 percent recycled content with post-consumer plastic. The lightweight Matryxevo technology applied to this model incorporates recycled Chametex yarns and First Mile yarns that allow maximum speed to be achieved with a lightweight while maintaining all its performance benefits.

The upper is connected to an internal Speedcage structure that provides lighter support while keeping the foot locked in for increased speed.

In addition, the Ultra 1.3 features a PEBA outsole for maximum exit speed with traction and better high-speed responsiveness, allowing for quick movements across the pitch. This new football boot will be released by the French Manchester United and former Real Madrid player Raphaël Varane.

Sports technology

42 percent of the Future Z 1.2 upper is made from recycled materials from post-consumer plastic. The innovative Fuzionfit+ compression of the Future model has been designed so that the boot fits the foot in the best possible way, wrapping it in a comfortable way and allowing great responsiveness to change direction at maximum speed.

The recycled upper of these boots is combined with a Dynamic Motion System outsole, specially designed to increase agility, provide extreme traction and facilitate multidirectional movements.

All linings, foams and stitching use recycled materials, making the Future Z 1.2 the most sustainable boot ever created. The Future Z 1.2 First Mile edition will be at the feet of Spanish Manchester City star Vicky Losada.

The new First Mile Pack with the recycled editions of the Ultra 1.3 and Future 1.2 football boots is now available on the Puma website, in Puma stores and other selected stores around the world.
