Atletico beat Levante
Champion Teams of the Copa del Rey On Wednesday, Atletico Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey with a 2-0 win at second-division Levante, while Real Betis were eliminated after losing a penalty shootout 4-2 to Osasuna. InsideSports.IN will provide you with the latest Copa Del Rey score updates.
Betis scored first in the 62nd minute thanks to William Carvalho and again in the 105th minute thanks to Youssouf Sabaly, but Osasuna equalized in the 109th minute thanks to David Garcia. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, and Ruben Garcia scored again for the visitors in the 105th minute to send the game into overtime tied at 2.
Betis’s Sergio Canales and Guido Rodriguez both missed penalties for the home team, and Osasuna scored on their first four attempts to seal the win, just as they had in last week’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final loss to Barcelona.
Atletico’s 2-0 win over Levante in the round of 16 was aided by goals from Alvaro Morata early in the second half and Marcos Llorente late in the game on the counter. Betis, the current champions, were eliminated by Levante, while Atletico Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals with a win over the team.
Diego Simeone, coach of Atletico, nearly fielded his strongest available squad in an effort to prevent another loss this trying season. His team is now ranked fourth in LaLiga despite finishing bottom in their Champions League group and having only one victory in their previous six matches.
After 54 minutes, Atletico finally scored when replacement Angel Correa ran up front and saw Marcos Llorente dribbling into space in the right channel and fed him a ball through.
Llorente dribbled into a scoring position and centered the ball for Morata, who tapped it home at the far post. Atletico Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey with a win over Levante, but current champions Betis were eliminated.
In the final minute of regulation, Llorente finished off a swift counter after receiving a long ball from fullback Nahuel Molina in open space by placing a low shot to the goalkeeper’s right, advancing Atletico to the quarterfinals.
Athletic Bilbao and Valencia both won their matches on Wednesday, with Valencia defeating Sporting Gijon 4-0 and Athletic Bilbao defeating Espanyol 1-0 to move on to the quarterfinals. Both Real Sociedad and Sevilla qualified on Tuesday with victories.
On Thursday, the round of 16 continues with Real Madrid’s match against Villarreal and Barcelona’s trip to Ceuta.
