On Wednesday (January 11), Ligue 1 club Auxerre will play host to Toulouse at the Stade Abbe-Deschamps.
Auxerre has been struggling lately, winning only one of their last 13 league games. They have lost three in a row, but they just won the Coupe de France in a shootout against Dunkerque.
Meanwhile, Toulouse ended a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory against Ajaccio in their most recent Ligue 1 match before smashing Lannion 7-1 in the Coupe de France over the weekend.
The game will start with Auxerre in 18th place and Toulouse in 12th.
In March of 2022, when Auxerre only had eleven players on the field, Toulouse came to Stade Abbe-Deschamps with a 2-1 victory. Toulouse hadn’t triumphed there since November 2010.
Auxerre is second only to last-place Angers in goals allowed (37). (35). Toulouse, too, has a shaky defense, letting in 33 goals. It’s been a rough season for Auxerre (16) in front of the goal.
The only team to score fewer goals than the (15) is Ajaccio. Senegalese international M’ Baye Niang of the home team is one of only five players in Ligue 1 this season to have been sent off twice.
With the fewest yellow cards issued in Ligue 1, Auxerre has maintained an excellent disciplinary record (17).
Both teams’ biggest problem this season has been conceding too many goals. Both teams were promoted from Ligue 2 over the summer, so it’s hardly a surprise.
Although Auxerre has been more prolific offensively, Toulouse has been more consistent as a team. After a resounding victory in the Coupe de France, they should be confident and quickly pull off the victory.
