What’s going on between Russia and Ukraine?

Where did it all started?

Ukrainian nuclear arsenal was the third-largest in the world when the Soviet Union split apart in the early 90s.

Kyiv handed its hundreds of nuclear weapons to Russia in exchange for guarantees that it would not be targeted by a Russian attack as part of a denuclearization diplomatic agreement between the United States and Russia.

When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014, such guarantees were put to the test. Russia invaded the Crimean Peninsula and supported a pro-Russia separatist rebellion in the eastern Donbas region.

Furthermore, Ukraine is not joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) as of now or in the future.

Ukraine on banning men to leave the country

Ukraine has officially banned men between the ages of 18 and 60 from leaving the country. As their President said, everyone will have to fight to protect their country. Ukraine is now under a state of emergency.

Boris Johnson had given a statement on the Russian-Ukrainian war stating that Putin has chosen a path of bloodshed and destruction by launching this unprovoked attack on Ukraine. The United Kingdom and their allies will respond to Russia decisively.

The statement of US President Joe Biden was also in the favour of Ukraine. He stated that “The prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces”.

However, he further added that he will monitor the situation from the White House and will continue to get regular updates from his national security team.
