‘It’s time to turn this pain into action’: Biden condemns Texas primary shooting

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, condemned the shooting that occurred this Tuesday at Robb Elementary School, which left a balance of 19 minors and two adults dead, in addition to the gunman killed.

“It’s time to turn this pain into action. It’s time to act, it’s time for all those who have outlawed gun control laws. We have to do more,” Biden said.

In a press conference held after returning from a trip to Asia, the president pointed out that this type of “mass murder” does not occur anywhere else in the world, only in the United States.

“Why are we willing to live with this slaughterhouse? Why do we let this happen? (…)  This cannot be, for the love of God,” he declared.

“There’s a lot we don’t know, there’s a lot we do know. Parents will never see their children again. (…) Losing a child is like having a piece of your soul ripped out, it will never be the same,” he said.

Likewise, the US president asked the nation to pray for the victims and their families, “to give strength to parents and siblings” after the event and indicated that, as a country, the United States must stand up and stop these acts.

” The idea that someone can walk into a store and buy guns is wrong. When a gunman spends two decades getting hold of assault weapons, we have to have the courage to stand up and stop this,” he said.

This afternoon, at least 21 people died and several were injured on Tuesday after an 18-year-old gunman opened fire at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas , police and a hospital in that southern US state reported. So far, the motives for the attack are unknown.
