Elon Musk Blames the US “Fun Police” for Tesla Disabling the Feature That Allows Its Vehicles to Make Animal Sounds

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the ‘boombox’ function does not meet the minimum safety standards required for electric cars.

Tesla’s decision to call more than 500,000 of its electric cars in the US for review to deactivate the ‘boombox’ function , which allows different sounds to be played through external speakers, is due to the fact that the Police of the North American country is “Funny,” said the CEO of that company, Elon Musk.

In early February, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued an order, requiring the review of 578,607 Tesla Model S, X, Y and Model 3 cars manufactured between 2017 and 2022. The federal agency noted that the ‘boombox’ function does not meet the minimum sound safety standards required for electric and hybrid cars.

This function allows drivers to play preset or custom sounds through the car’s external speakers, such as animal sounds or other types of noise. The NHTSA argues that boombox noises may increase the risk of an accident by interfering with audible pedestrian warning signals.

Tesla will make a “software” update that will disable the “boombox” function when the vehicle is running, in neutral mode and in reverse. This is the fourth time Tesla has recalled thousands of its cars in the US since last December, for various reasons.
