Ukrainian government denounces that Russian soldier abused a woman and mentions more cases

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Iryna Venediktova, has explained on her Facebook account that a Russian military officer is under arrest warrant for raping a woman in Kyiv.

Almost a month into the war between Russia and Ukraine, the complaints against Russian troops for alleged human rights violations are countless and are being investigated by the UN. The US embassy in Kyiv accused Vladimir Putin’s forces of kidnapping 2,389 children in Donetsk and Luhansk.

Faced with the fact, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General, Irina Venediktova, stressed that “This abuse is a serious violation of international law.” He also denounced on his Facebook account that a Russian soldier sexually assaulted a Ukrainian woman in the presence of her son after killing her husband, who was unarmed.

“In one of the villages of the Brovarsky district of the Kyiv region, the soldier entered a private house and shot the owner. Later, the criminal, along with her co-worker, repeatedly raped the wife of the murdered peasant and threatened her with violence and weapons. He even threatened his little son, who was with the victim, ”he detailed before adding that the case has been transferred to court.

“A Russian soldier has been reported on suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war. It was announced to him that he was wanted and will be brought to court”.

“Let’s find every villain and hold them accountable through the rigour of the law!” sentenced.

The prosecutor also stressed that her office continues to receive constant information about sexual crimes committed by Russian soldiers in the invaded territories or as she calls them “hot spots”.

These statements were similar to what was pointed out during the first days of the conflict by the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, who accused the Russian military of having committed sexual abuse in Ukrainian cities.

“Soldiers rape women in occupied cities and we have many cases, unfortunately. When the Russian soldiers’ rape women in Ukrainian cities, it is difficult, of course, talk about the effectiveness of international law,” he said.

5,000 pieces of evidence of war crimes

Ukraine collected through the unified platform warcrimes.gov.ua already almost 5,000 evidence of war crimes committed by Russia submitted by citizens, whose testimony is “invaluable”, the prosecutor general’s office said Wednesday.

The Prosecutor General’s Office thanked citizens for not being “indifferent” and stated that “today, every Ukrainian is a valuable witness and, in the near future, a member of a team of accusers of many millions.”

“The whole country joins in collecting evidence of the atrocities of the Russian invaders. The Office of the Prosecutor, state and law enforcement agencies, human rights and civil society organizations, experts and specialists, international institutions, journalists and ordinary citizens have the possibility to act as a united front to document the terrible crimes committed by the Russian aggressor,” the document said.

Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova reported that seven countries have already launched an investigation into war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine.
