Trial ends and verdict in Amber Heard & Johnny Depp case is suspended

The jury did not reach a verdict, after several hours of deliberation; the controversial trial will be resumed on Tuesday, May 31

After eight hours in court in Fairfax (Virginia, United States), a verdict was not reached in the trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Jury deliberations will continue Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. after the Memorial Day weekend break.

On what was thought to be the last day of the trial, Judge Penney Azcarate heard the last arguments of the lawyers that both parties presented in 120 minutes each. The defense of the Pirates of the Caribbean actor said that the “abuser” in the couple was Heard and not Depp. “This case has never been about money. This is about the reputation of the man and freeing him from the prison in which he has lived for the last six years, ”Benjamin Chew pointed out.

While Camille Vasquez emphasized: “We ask you to give Mr. Depp his life back, to tell the world that he is not the abuser that Miss Heard said he was and to hold him accountable for his lies… The evidence shown in this trial has shown that Miss Heard is the abuser. She was violent, abusive, and cruel.”

The actress’s defense was also severe in stating that there is strong evidence in her favor and that what would happen in the room would be a strong message for women who suffer violence. “If you didn’t take photos, it didn’t happen… If you did, they’re fake. If you didn’t tell your friends, they’re lying. If you told your friends, they are part of the deception,” said Ben Rottenborn.

This case began in March 2019, when Depp sued Heard for 50 million dollars, pointing out that in the opinion piece he published in 2018, she defined herself as “a public figure who represents domestic abuse”, which made him look at him as the abuser. Heard countersued for $100 million for defamation.

The jury will see the two claims, so both can be found guilty, innocent or they can blame only one.

LATEST EVENTS

  • On April 11, the trial began, which has been considered the most mediatic so far this year.
