Thousands of protestors criticizing the Russia-Ukraine war were arrested by Russian police

This Thursday, the Russian government arrested more than a thousand people who were protesting in various Russian cities against the invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces authorized by President Vladimir Putin.

During the early hours of Thursday (Ukrainian time), Russian troops began the military operation on Ukrainian land after the approval of the Russian head of state, who in a speech warned of consequences “never seen before” for whoever decided to intervene in favour of the Volodymyr Zelensky government.

According to data collected by the OVD-Info organization, a total of 1,234 people have been detained by the Russian government in 49 Russian cities, including Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Yekaterinburg.

According to what was reported by the said organization, the authorities of the Putin government have attacked people who were demonstrating against the war started by the Russian president in Ukraine.

In addition to this, the security elements threatened the protesters with weapons and proceeded to seize their documents and cell phones. Also, it was found that the officers took photos of some protesters and recorded their fingerprints.

The Russian Interior Ministry informed citizens that the government would take “all necessary measures” in order to maintain the law in the country while warning that those who carry out “provocative or aggressive” actions will be detained by agents. policemen

“We know that a solid majority of the population supported the president’s decision to recognize the two republics. Therefore, we can assume that the level of support (for operations in Ukraine) will not be less,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, in the Ukrainian territory, more than 100 people, both military and civilians, have lost their lives amid the constant explosions generated by the Russian troops seeking to seize Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
