She said this, speaking on Wednesday in the European Parliament, reports “European Truth”.
“We must again increase the pressure on Putin and the Russian government. Therefore, we propose to further increase our sanctions. They limit the political and economic possibilities of the Kremlin. They affect Russia much more than us. And they will not be our last sanctions,” – von der Leyen said.
The head of the European Council, also speaking before the European Parliament, said that at some point the European Union would have to impose sanctions against the import of Russian oil and even gas in order for the Russian Federation to stop its invasion of Ukraine.
On Tuesday, European Union officials released details of other new sanctions. These include a ban on the import of Russian coal, restrictions on the access of Russian truckers and ships, restrictions targeting oligarchs and their families, and blocking the export of certain high-tech machines.
The European Union has also proposed imposing sanctions on two daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
