The fire season has begun in Rome

Yesterday there were six fires in different areas of the city

With the heat and the gusts of wind that come to life in the afternoon, the fire season has already begun in Rome. Even before the start of the civil protection anti-fire campaign for the summer of 2022. Only in the last 24 hours, six fire fronts have opened in different areas of Rome, from Aurelio to Castelverde, passing through Ostia.

Monday was a busy day for the firefighters, the carabinieri of the forestry unit, and the volunteers of the civil protection groups who fought for hours against a major fire that broke out in the pine forest of Castel Fusano, where a fire had already occurred on Sunday. A helicopter and a Canadair with the wind from the sea made the operations involving the green lung of Ostia difficult to support the rescue by land.

Between lunchtime and the afternoon, then, other fires. At Aurelio, in the Villa Troili area, at the Pisana, and Castelverde, in the Sant’Alessandro area. To work for hours, firefighters and civil protection volunteers, among others, those of the groups Caer and Giannino Caria. In the area of ​​Villa Troili, a building via Degli Antamoro was evacuated as a precaution, after the alarm given by the Bravetta carabinieri. The flames, due to the wind, had spread to the surrounding land, burning an area of ​​eight hectares. The firefighters also used a helicopter to put out the fire. The road system via di villa Troili has been blocked.

At about 5 pm, however, a bush fire developed little in via dello Scalo Prenestino, height number 15, in an area of ​​the RFI railways. In this case, the smoke spread to the adjacent streets. The local police patrols of the IV Tiburtino Group are also on-site, engaged in the traffic services and securing the area, assisting the firefighters. To facilitate traffic throughout the quadrant, from the San Giovanni area to that surrounding Via Prenestina, numerous patrols of the local police of the I Trevi, VII Appio, and V Prenestino groups were employed.
