Polish President Andrzej Duda’s plane has to make an emergency landing - Before meeting Biden

Before the planned meeting between Poland’s head of state Andrzej Duda and US President Joe Biden in Rzeszow, Poland, the plane with Duda on board had to make an emergency landing. The plane had returned to Warsaw because of damage, and they are now waiting for the replacement plane to depart for Rzeszow, the PAP news agency reported on Friday, citing Duda’s foreign policy adviser Jakub Kumoch.

Air Force One with Biden on board landed punctually at 2:15 p.m. at Rzeszow Airport. However, the US President did not get out at first, as could be seen in pictures on Polish television. Kumoch said Biden’s program will be slightly modified.

Summit marathon for politicians

In the neighbouring country of Ukraine, the US President wants to meet with US troops stationed in Poland. In addition to talks with the Polish leadership, the program has also included Biden’s appearance at the Warsaw Royal Castle on Saturday. In view of the conflict with Russia, Biden had increased the number of US soldiers stationed in Poland to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.

Biden was previously in Brussels. There he took part in three top meetings on Thursday – the program included a special NATO summit, a summit of the leading democratic economic powers (G7) and an EU summit. Biden announced in Brussels, among other things, that the United States wants to take in up to 100,000 refugees from Ukraine. The US government also imposed new sanctions on Russia.
