Poland received 106,000 Ukrainian refugees in less than a day

According to UNHCR data, it is estimated that about 25% of the Ukrainian population would leave the country.

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has forced thousands of citizens to immediately leave the country affected by constant attacks by Russian military troops. One of the countries that has been receiving refugees in Poland, which in the last 24 hours received 106,000 Ukrainian inhabitants.

According to reports from the United Nations Organization (UN), it is estimated that 1.2 million people left Ukrainian lands in the last 10 days as a result of the conflict. Of these, around 78,000 are foreigners, including students and workers, who resided in the country.

For its part, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) calculated that this Russian invasion could trigger four million people to flee Ukraine, which would mean 25% of the total population.

Within the current context, President Volodimir Zelensky held a virtual meeting with United States senators where he asked them to send more planes and to stop importing oil from Russia.

In a statement, Chuck Schumer, leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate, explained that Zelenski made “a desperate appeal” to the countries of Eastern Europe to send to Ukraine the planes they have available and that are Russian-made.

Schumer commented that these planes “are very necessary” to stop Russia and promised that he will do “everything he can” with the Joe Biden government to support the sending of these planes.
