Passports
Next month, the price to obtain a new British passport will increase.
On February 2, the government announced that it would impose new passport fees for all applications, which will apply to everyone who are applying for their first passport or renewing one.
The cost of a typical online application submitted from within the UK will increase from £49 to £53.50 for youngsters and from £75.50 to £82.50 for adults.
“The expense of passport applications does not generate any revenue for the government.
“The payments will also help cover the cost of processing passport applications, providing consular assistance to British nationals abroad, particularly in cases of lost or stolen passports.
The rise will make it possible for the government to keep enhancing its offerings, too.
The cost of obtaining a passport has increased for the first time in five years, according to the Home Office, which also noted that the measures are under parliamentary review.
Adult postal applications will rise from £85 to £93 and children’s applications will rise from £58.50 to £64.
The additional fees will assist the Home Office in moving toward a system that covers its expenses through those who use it, lessening reliance on revenue from general taxation, according to the government’s website detailing the ideas.
