Omicron: Mice could be the origin of the Covid-19 variant

The Omicron variant could develop in its transmission from mice to humans.

Since the Ómicron variant was detected, hundreds of experts have dedicated hours of study to analyze its components and, of course, its danger.

Now a new theory suggests that its origin was in an animal and that it infected others in order to reach humans, or at least that is what is being discussed.

Months later, the variant is already the most dominant in the world, occurring in 70% of cases, even surpassing the Delta strain.

Mice would be the origin of the Omicron variant

Researchers from the ‘ Journal of Biosafety and Biosecurity ‘ reported in their most recent publication that the most likely host to have carried the virus and subsequently transmit it is the mouse.

“This mutation profile shows that the virus has adapted to infect mouse cells. In addition, the time-scaled phylogenetic tree shows that the Omicron and Gamma lineages were likely circulating in mid-2020, supporting the hypothesis of “Omicron may have evolved in a non-human animal species. We believe that the coronavirus slowly accumulated mutations over time in mice, before it was transmitted to humans by reverse zoonosis.”

In this sense, these findings are a clear sign that research should focus on SARS-COV2 variants isolated from wild animals, especially rodents. “If Ómicron is determined to have been derived from mice, the implications of its circulation among non-human hosts will pose new challenges in epidemic prevention and control,” he concludes.

Now with the passing of days and thanks to recent research, it can be determined that the variant is highly contagious, but not more deadly.

Symptoms of omicron

Main symptoms that have been identified with Ómicron :

  • Headache
  • sneezing
  • low back pain
  • Night sweats
  • Sickness
  • Hair loss
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Tos
  • Mild Fever

The Ómicron Variant was detected for the first time in a 50-year-old patient, who came from South Africa and who underwent the pertinent studies to determine the danger of this new strain.
