Omicron Coronavirus Cases: Two new Omicron cases in Maharashtra, India total stands at 23 now

Two cases of Covid-19 Omicron variant were reported in Mumbai on Monday, raising India’s overall count of the novel coronavirus variation to 23.

The first two cases were recorded in Karnataka, accompanied by one in Jamnagar (Gujarat) and the other in Maharashtra. Later on Sunday, seven more cases were recorded in Maharashtra’s Pune area, of which six related to the same family. In Jaipur, nine cases of the Omicron variant were verified — all of whom had visited the same wedding. In Delhi, a man in his 30s was confirmed to be infected with the new variant and taken to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.

Multiple states have ramped up vaccination, monitoring, and containment efforts after India discovered over 20 cases of Omicron strain of coronavirus. Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday urged Delhi airport operator DIAL to employ improved crowd management tactics after customers complained of disruption and overcrowding at its terminal after the introduction of new coronavirus-related travel restrictions. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal advised the population not to worry and adhere to Covid protocols.

However, the Tamil Nadu government has taken precautionary steps like door-to-door vaccination in response to the Omicron variant. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai remarked that the state is completely equipped to regulate the new variant. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday said there is a need to take a decision at the national level on whether a booster dosage of the vaccine is necessary to stop the pandemic. “The Centre also should adopt a strong attitude on patients coming from outside in different states. It must be assured laws are enforced carefully at our international airports,” he stated.

India registered 8,306 new Covid-19 cases, according to the Health Ministry’s press statement in the previous 24 hours ending 8 am on December 6. As many as 211 additional fatalities were recorded in the nation. With 8,834 recoveries, the active cases in India were at 98,416.
