Mexico strongly opposes the invasion of Ukraine and the following ceasefire

This afternoon before the UN Security Council, Mexico will strongly condemn the invasion of which Ukraine has been a victim.

This afternoon before the UN Security Council, Mexico will strongly condemn the invasion of which Ukraine has been a victim, said Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Mexico’s permanent representative to the United Nations.

In a video released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to the holding of a Council session, De la Fuente said that Mexico will reject the invasion in accordance with the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and based on the constitutional principles of political abroad and in the historical experience it has as a country that has suffered invasions.

Simultaneously, he said, he will call for a ceasefire as soon as possible, so that the civilians who are suffering the consequences of the invasion are supported through the UN.

“We will reiterate our respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity. Mexico’s position in the Security Council will be based on the constitutional principles of foreign policy and our own historical experience, which has shaped us and allowed us to have a clear identity and a firm conviction on these issues,” said De la Fuente.
