The quai de la Dérivation and bridge d’Amercoeur were closed this afternoon, and numerous businesses in Liège were also evacuated. A bomb threat was the reason. The site was cleared after deminers detonated a suspicious luggage.
This afternoon, Sudinfo reported that a security cordon had been set up between the pier of the Derivation and the Amercoeur bridge after the discovery of a suspicious bag. A number of stores had to be evacuated, and roads had to be shut down, because of this bomb threat.
Our friends at Sudinfo report that around 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday, the police in Liège were alerted to a suspicious suitcase at the intersection of Rue Louis Jamme and Rue Puits-en-Sock in the city’s Outremeuse neighborhood. The area is now protected by a perimeter fence. At 3:45, the deminers arrived on the scene. At approximately 4:30 p.m., a tiny robot was used to detonate the suspect luggage. This one was enclosed in a blue PMC bag, hung from a post, and welcomed visitors to “Outremeuse.”
At 5:30 p.m., the police cordon was taken down, and rush hour traffic could once again flow freely.
