International Court of Justice orders Russia to cease military operations in Ukraine
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ordered Russia to stop its military actions in Ukraine.
The main judicial body of the UN issued on Wednesday its ruling on Ukraine’s request for the indication of interim measures in the case concerning Allegations of Genocide under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
During the session, held under the presidency of Justice Joan E. Donoghue, President of the Court, the judges determined by thirteen votes to two, that the Russian Federation must suspend “immediately the military operations that it began on February 24, 2022 on the territory of Ukraine .”
Joan E. Donoghue warned that:
“The court is well aware of the magnitude of the human tragedy that is taking place in Ukraine.”
“The court is deeply concerned about the use of force by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, which raises very serious questions of international law”, reiterated the magistrate.
Likewise, they dictated that Russia will ensure that all military or irregular armed units that may be directed or supported by it, as well as by organizations and individuals that may be subject to its control or direction, do not take measures to promote military operations.
