The Congress on Thursday extended its support to the youth agitating against the Centre’s Agneepath scheme to recruit armed forces but urged them to maintain peace and shun violence. Addressing a press conference, party MP Deepender Hooda said, “Understanding their concerns, we extend our support to the demands of the youth to withdraw the Agneepath scheme. But at the same time, they should protest peacefully and withdraw it immediately.” want to demand.”

Observing that the plan would demoralize the armed forces and weaken the regimental system, the Congress leader said that when the country was already facing threats from China and Pakistan, the Center should refrain from doing such experiments. He said that despite repeated requests, the Modi government did not open recruitment for three years, so the government should apologize to the youth of the country. The party asked the government to withdraw this policy.

However, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that recruitment in the army under the Agneepath scheme will start soon. He advised the candidates to start their preparation.

Describing the scheme as a ‘golden opportunity to join the country’s defense system and serve the country, Singh thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing age relaxation for the first batch to be recruited through the scheme.

His remarks came amid protests spread across several other states including Bihar. Protests against Agneepath continued for the third day in seven states including the national capital.
