TOKYO, Aug 2 (Reuters) – Cuban Yaime Pérez won the bronze medal in women’s discus on Monday, a competition that finished with gold from American Valarie Allman, who achieved a record of 68.98 meters.
The German Kristin Pudenz got silver with a mark of 66.86 meters and Pérez took bronze with 65.72.
A torrential rain during the second round wreaked havoc on the competition as a handful of athletes struggled to complete their shots before organizers temporarily suspended the event.
Croatian Sandra Perkovic could not get her third consecutive Olympic gold by finishing fourth with 65.01 meters.
