Alberto Fernández complained about the absence of the Malvinas in the logo of the Summit

“We continue to claim through diplomatic channels the legitimate rights that we have over our Islands,” said the President.

President Alberto Fernández reaffirmed Argentina’s sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands on Thursday, giving his speech before the IX Summit of the Americas in the city of Los Angeles in the USA.

Before an audience in which the host Joe Biden and his vice president, Kamala Harris, were present, the Argentine president stated: “Argentina is a peaceful country. We continue to claim through diplomatic channels the legitimate rights that we have over our Islands”.

“Islands that are absent from this logo,” he claimed, turning around and pointing to the map of the American continent that accompanies the name of the summit on the official banners. “We remain confident in dialogue,” she added, without mentioning Britain.

Alberto Fernández: “Let’s organize food production continental”

President Alberto Fernández is in Los Angeles, United States, where the IX Summit of the Americas is taking place. There he gave a speech on Thursday where he discussed several issues, including the importance of a united Latin America.

It should be remembered that the president is head pro tempore of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). In just over 10 minutes, he also took the opportunity to criticize the absence of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.

In the beginning, Fernández reviewed the inequality that exists on the continent and blamed the global order that imposes “inequitable financial rules.” “Few concentrate income while millions are trapped in the pit of poverty,” he said.

After this, he highlighted the role played by Latin America and the Caribbean and the importance of working together. “I would like to make it clear that the fact of being the host country does not grant the ability to impose the right of admission on the member countries of the continent,” she said, referring to the United States.

Then, Fernández reviewed Donald Trump’s management (which he considered harmful to the region) and asked Joe Biden to change course. He also lamented that the northern country has appropriated the leadership of the Inter-American Development Bank.

One of the proposals he presented was to change the Organization of American States (OAS): “If it wants to be respected, it must be restructured by removing those who run it.”

At another time, he proposed that food and protein production be organized continentally and that the “enormous potential” that the region has in terms of energy be taken advantage of.

“It is natural for us to think about building a sustainable future. I am trying to build bridges and tear down walls,” said the head of state. There he took the opportunity to invite Biden to the next plenary session held by CELAC.
