Marvel Comics: A Classic X-Men Character Weapon Gets a Significant Upgrade in New Mutants!

New Mutants #26, from X-Men Marvel Comics, comes with a notable upgrade for Illyana Rasputin/Magik: the retrieval of her Soulsword, but in another guise. As the CBR portal tells, Magik and her allies face-off with the demon S’ym and his minions. Magik’s Future Self offers her the opportunity for single combat against the demon, which is accepted by the demon.

Although Magik’s Soulsword was previously destroyed by S’ym, it reappears in its much more powerful Technarch form. She changes form, as well as displays other nanite enhancements while maintaining her teleportation powers. Soulsword was in the hands of Belasco, Kitty Pride, and Nightcrawler, but it always ends up returning to Magik’s hands.

Character development for Magik in X-Men and New Mutants

Present in Marvel comics since Giant-Size X-Men Vol 1 (1975), Illyana Rasputin is the sister of Colossus (Piotr Rasputin). She wields the powers of teleportation, with the ability to open portals; magical manipulation, and super human jumps. She passed from Illyana to Magik in 1982, just before the formation of The New Mutants. He joined the team in 1984’s New Mutants Vol 1 #14.

In The New Mutants, she was played by Anya Taylor-Joy. The first appearance of the Soulsword occurred in 1983’s Uncanny X-Men #171, by Chris Claremont and Walt Simonson.
