blepharoplasty
The face is one of the parts of the body that most suffers the effects of the passage of time and in which they are seen the most. There is nothing wrong with getting old, but no one likes to have a wrinkled or blotchy face, we all try to keep our best.
Cosmetics and aesthetic medicine have come a long way in recent years and more and more products and techniques are appearing that seek to achieve a rejuvenating result without having to undergo surgery.
One of the areas of the face that suffers the most over time is the periocular area. The typical wrinkles are known as crow’s feet and bags usually appear on the lower eyelid. In some cases, there may also be sagging of the skin and, therefore, a lowering of the eyelid.
For its part, the upper eyelid can have excessive skin sagging. This causes aesthetic and health damage since excess skin makes eye fatigue problems worse since the eye is less open than it should and has to make a greater effort to focus.
Until now, the usual thing was to solve these problems with a surgery known as blepharoplasty, which consists of removing the excess skin that surrounds the eye. The operation is done by making incisions in the natural folds of the eyelid, which prevents visible scars.
It is not a complex operation, but it involves total sedation of the patient and the presence of discomfort in an area as delicate as the eye until a few days pass.
The laser has become a good alternative to surgery when it comes to facial rejuvenation. One of the newer techniques is the Plexr. It is a cutting-edge plasma laser that can rejuvenate the face without the need for intrusive operations.
This laser has been developed in Italy by Giorgio Filippi and in Spain, there are already several clinics that use it.
What is done is to apply the laser on the area to be treated, which produces a superficial burn whose scabs will disappear in about a week. Each session lasts an average of 15 minutes and the only preparation that is required is to apply a little anaesthetic cream in the area to reduce discomfort in the patient.
In many cases, the desired results are achieved with a single session, although depending on the patient, two or three sessions may be necessary. Of course, the results that are achieved are always long-term. In some cases, they last for years and in others, as in the treatment of skin blemishes, there are definitive effects.
This new technology can be used in the following treatments:
What this technique does is ionize the gases contained in the air to obtain a small electric arc that is applied to those dermal areas that are affected by aesthetic problems, without transmitting heat to the surrounding areas.
The patient who undergoes a blepharoplasty with this laser is applied an anaesthetic cream in the area to be treated; then the intervention begins. Depending on what has to be done, the specialist will use some trigger points or others.
The light and easy-to-handle head of this laser allow professionals to work more comfortably and in a very precise way. It is important that this intervention is always carried out by a specialized aesthetic doctor since it must be done carefully to design the eyelid folds and thus achieve the expected result.
What is done is to cause a superficial and controlled burn in which the scab forms immediately. Precisely that scab prevents it from continuing to burn in the area, making it a totally safe method.
This technique alters the structure of the skin on which it has been applied and produces a direct contraction, so the results can be seen almost immediately.
In addition to blepharoplasty, the Plexr laser can also be used to rejuvenate the entire periocular area. The effects on the upper eyelid can last from 5 to 10 years, while on crow’s feet the effects last between 3 and 6 years.
This aesthetic treatment can be combined with others as long as they are not techniques that weaken the skin, such as peeling or dermabrasion. You can even use the laser and the Botox application in the same session.
As it is not an invasive process, patients can immediately return to their normal life, but for a time they must take into account a series of precautions, such as wearing sunglasses.
Two weeks before the intervention, and up to three months after the application of the laser, the patient should not sunbathe with his eyes uncovered. There is a significant risk of hyperpigmentation of new skin, so always wear a high-level sunscreen (minimum 50) and sunglasses.
The treated area should be washed with mild soap and water twice a day until the scabs that have formed are completely removed. Once the scabs have disappeared it is advisable to keep the area hydrated by applying petroleum jelly.
In addition to the scabs, it is normal that the first days after the intervention edema or a little inflammation may appear, but the normal thing is that these effects disappear after a few days.
In no case do the secondary effects of the operation prevent the patient from leading his life normally.
