How to adapt to summer time without dying trying?

Daylight saving time will cause clocks to go forward one hour on April 3, which could cause drowsiness, sleepiness and tiredness.

This Sunday, March 3, at 2 in the morning, all people in Mexico must advance their clocks one hour, due to summertime, which can affect our bodies.

This is due to the fact that it is more complicated to adapt to changes when the body feels that it has “lost” an hour than when it gains it, as is the case with this schedule, explains Muy Interesante magazine.

In this way, after the change, you may feel tired, very sleepy, disoriented, dazed, lack of energy, poor concentration, and even have difficulty falling asleep, because there is a mismatch between our biological clock and the real-time.

Despite this, you should not worry, since the effects do not usually last long, since the body takes from 3 days to a week to adapt, according to Raúl Aguilar Roblero, a researcher at the Institute of Cellular Physiology at UNAM.

However, there are some things you can do to adapt much faster and not suffer from jet lag caused by the time change for long time. We give you some tips.

How to adapt to summertime?

One of the main things you can do to avoid imbalances is to try to get eight hours of sleep at a time, as well as go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.

It is also important to avoid afternoon naps in order to sleep peacefully and have a restful night’s sleep. In case you want to take a nap, it is important that you do not exceed 20 minutes, explains the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN).

Diet will also have an influence, since avoiding coffee, tea or any other stimulating substance such as alcohol, and even smoking after 6 in the afternoon, can affect sleep. In addition, it is advisable to have a light dinner two hours before going to bed.

Going outdoors can also help you to better adapt since exposure to the sun can alleviate the feeling of tiredness during the day, explains Muy Interesante magazine.

Finally, to better sleep and avoid fatigue, it is important to avoid having cell phones, tablets, computers or televisions in the room, as this should be a quiet space.
