How many times should a Pug eat a day?

The Pug, like all dogs, often uses the “cute look” tactic when he wants a little more food or a taste of what his owner is eating, however, it is vitally important that he avoid giving him more food than it requires, since in this way possible and future complications in your health can be prevented.

To do this, the specialists at the Beracas kennel tell you the ideal frequency to feed a Pug :

  • Three times a day if he is 2 to 4 months old.
  • Twice a day if he is 4 to 12 months old.
  • Once a day if you have 12 months or more to live.

Tips for feeding a Pug

According to the experts, these are some tips that could help you when feeding a Pug dog :

  1. Find and contact serious and responsible breeders to guide you on the nutrition that this specific breed needs.
  2. During his first year of life, offer him very high quality or premium dry food, since he will not need meat or vegetable supplements.
  3. Consider that pregnant females, older dogs, young dogs and puppies require food made especially for their age and physical condition.
  4. If he is over 12 months old, it is likely that after eating he will have stomach torsion, and to prevent them it is recommended that he does not do any type of exercise for 2 or 3 hours.
  5. If he suddenly stops eating, add a little water or broth to his croquettes to moisten them and try to eat again.

Most Pugs are very practical in many aspects, since they do not need a lot of special care, unlike other breeds, according to breeders, but that does not mean that we have to ignore the importance of their maintenance.

As a curious fact about the breed, this mischievous little animal  can weigh from 6.3 to 8.1 kilos and measure from 25.4 to 33 cm . Additionally, it has a life expectancy of 13 to 15 years , according to the American Kennel Club ( AKC ), an organization dedicated to registering pedigree dogs. Remember that your pet’s well-being is part of your responsibility, so giving it the right care can help keep it healthy and very happy for many years.
