Dry and Irritated Vagina, This Could Be The Cause

Many women have problems with their vagina or intimate organs. One problem that often arises is vaginal dryness.

There are many factors that make the vagina dry. Reporting from Healthots, Dr Aruna Kalra, director, obstetrics & gynecology, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, said that a person may experience itching, burning, redness, vaginal discomfort, several types of urinary symptoms such as frequency of urination or urgency of urination. urination or even very difficult sexual intercourse, painful intercourse, dyspareunia if the vagina is dry.

“So once we know the cause of vaginal dryness, we can eliminate the cause and it will get better,” says Dr Aruna Kalra, director, obstetrics & gynecology, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram.

To find out more, here are a number of causes of vaginal dryness

1. Estrogen deficiency or hormone deficiency

One of the most common causes of vaginal dryness is a drop in estrogen levels. But what can cause a hormone deficiency (low estrogen levels)? Dr Kalra said, “It can happen after delivery, during breastfeeding. I

It can also occur in someone who is undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy for certain types of cancer. In addition, in those who are postmenopausal and menopausal after the ovaries are surgically removed. Those are some of the causes behind hormone deficiency.”

2. Hormonal birth control pills

Vaginal dryness can be a hormonal side effect of some birth control methods such as hormonal birth control pills that contain the hormones estrogen or progesterone.

It happens because birth control pills lower a woman’s testosterone levels produced by the ovaries, which causes vaginal dryness.

3. Use of several types of drugs

“Some drugs also cause vaginal dryness . If you use anti-estrogen creams for uterine fibroids, for endometriosis, or if you take anti-allergic medications for colds, you may experience vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness can also be caused by many other medications such as antidepressants,” says Dr Kalra.

Vaginal dryness can also cause discomfort in the pelvic and vaginal area. In fact, it can cause the following:

  • Burning or itching sensation
  • Illness of loss of interest in sexual relations
  • Light bleeding after sexual intercourse
  • Urinary tract infection

Pain during sexual intercourse
