This is what the characters of Pinocchio look like in the version of Guillermo del Toro

The filmmaker will change the traditional history of the character, will he be a rebel?

Guillermo del Toro will challenge “obedience” in the new version of Pinocchio, a film that he will recreate for Netflix. The story will have a twist regarding the message that he wants to give to the public because this time it is about the empowerment of boys and girls. A plus of this tape is the characters since they have a different aspect, more realistic and without the “friendly” vision.

The tape includes not only the change in the plot but also the stop-motion technique, that is, the video recording of still images will be used. The Vanity Fair portal was the first to share the photos from the film.

On this occasion, Pinocchio will not look like a human, as he will be completely made of wood, including elongated eyes and extensive limbs. Even Jiminy the cricket now has a spooky look with dull colors.

Among the actors who will give life and voice to the characters is Gregory Mann, a debutant actor whose nose will “grow” as Pinocchio, British actor Ewan McGregor as “Sebastian J. Cricket” and David Bradley as Gepetto, who has also been part of the cast of “Game of Thrones” and “Harry Potter”.

According to various media, del Toro will make a change in the vision of the traditional story of the original Disney movie and book, as Pinocchio will venture on a journey of “temptation and vice” to reinforce the old notions of the obedience of grown-ups.

“It is contrary to the book because the book seeks to tame the spirit of the child in a strange way. It’s a book full of great inventions, but it’s also all about obeying your parents and being ‘a good boy’ and all that. (This [movie] is about finding yourself and finding your way in the world, not just obeying others. Commandments that are given to you, but finding out when they are right or wrong”, expressed the filmmaker.

Del Toro added that to give more strength to the premise, it will set the Italy of World War II, in a world where citizens also behave with obedient fidelity, like a “puppet”.

“Many times the fable has seemed, to me, in favor of obedience and the taming of the soul. Blind obedience is not a virtue. Pinocchio’s virtue is to disobey. At a time when everyone else is behaving like a puppet, he isn’t. Those are the interesting things for me. I don’t want to tell the same story again. “History. I want to tell it my way and the way I understand the world,” he concluded.
