Selena Gomez has become an icon of beauty, mental health, and self-love in recent years. The artist has revealed in her latest interviews that she is really happy and has attributed this improvement to an unusual decision: getting away from the internet.

The young actress, who is filming the second season of Only Murders in the Building, recently told in an interview how her present is in that regard. “ I haven’t been on the internet in four and a half years. It has completely changed my life,” she said on Good Morning America.

The star stopped by the show to tell about his new Wondermind project. This is a website that offers a collection of mental health resources.

The artist explained that she is not the one behind her social media accounts, although she does help put together the content to be published. Thanks to this possibility of giving herself a voice without being exposed to the internet, she admits that she feels very good about herself. “I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people. It makes me feel normal .”

“I can’t believe I’m where I am mentally, just because of how I’ve taken the necessary steps to get away from it…because it’s just not normal,” she said of growing up in the public eye.

“If I’m known for anything, I hope it’s simply the way I care about people. I really want people to be understood, seen, and heard. Those days when I don’t want to get out of bed, if I had something like Wondermind, even if it took me a minute to get in, it’s just there, and there’s something really comforting about that.”

 

Selena’s relationship with the internet

In a previous interview with  Vogue a year ago, Selena already talked about this long-distance relationship that she was trying to work on in relation to the networks.

The pop star explained that she had been offline for three years [at the time] and was sending photos and messages to her assistant to post on her behalf.

“Everyone always asks me, ‘Are you in on the secret? you’re lying?’ and I say: ‘I have no reason to lie,’ ”he told the outlet at the time. He also added that he hears from her mainly from ‘an older woman who I am very close to’ and whose identity she prefers to remain a secret. 

“I watch CNN, but I try not to do it too much because I am empathetic to the point that I cry for anything. I cried a lot during quarantine, just because of everyone else’s pain.”
