Robbie Bachman, Drummer And Co-Founder Of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Has Died

The death has occurred of Robbie Bachman, the band’s drummer and a co-founder of the rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive in the 1970s. Randy Bachman, Bachman’s older brother and the band’s lead singer and guitarist, made the announcement yesterday on his own Twitter account (January 12).

He referred to it as “another sorrowful farewell.” My younger brother Robbie, the driving force behind BTO, has crossed across to be with our parents and our other brother Gary.

Bachman-Turner Overdrive, or BTO as they are more well known, started out in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in the early 1970s.

Robbie, Randy, and Tim Bachman were original members, as was bassist/vocalist Fred Turner. In 1973, they dropped their debut album simply named, and later that year, they dropped Bachman-Turner Overdrive II. One of BTO’s most popular songs, “Taking Care of Business,” appeared on their second studio album.

The group’s next album, Not Fragile, was released in 1974 and featured the hit single “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.” Many films and TV shows have featured BTO songs, including Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (“Let It Ride“) and Will Ferrell’s The Campaign (“Taking Care of Business“). Robbie co-wrote a number of BTO songs with Randy, including their hit “Roll On Down the Highway,” which peaked at No. 14 in the United States. m The Canadian Music Hall of Fame inducted BTO in 2014.
