Pink Floyd Fans Rejoice! The Band Is Releasing Dark Side of the Moon Box Set for Their 50th Anniversary

It has been reported that on March 24, 2019, Warners will distribute a special 50th anniversary box set of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Additionally, the band has announced the independent release of both the CD and vinyl versions of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon: Live at Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974.

A new The Dark Side of the Moon event, revealed by the band, will debut at London’s renowned Planetarium, where the album’s initial press presentation took place in February 1973.

Thames And Hudson accidentally revealed the forthcoming box set on their website, which was reported by Prog last week when they announced a new book on the record, The Dark Side Of The Moon By Pink Floyd.

The deluxe box set features the freshly remastered studio album on CD and gatefold vinyl, as well as the original 5.1 mix and remastered stereo versions of the music on Blu-ray and DVD. The Dark Side Of The Moon – Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974 is featured on a new Blu-ray disc with a Dolby Atmos mix, as well as a CD and an LP.

This is the first time Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon — Live at Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974” has been released as a standalone album; it was recorded in November 1974 as part of the band’s winter tour and features the same line-drawn cover by George Hardie that appeared on the album’s original 1973 release.

As an added bonus, Pink Floyd will host a competition for aspiring animators to make music videos for any of the album’s 10 tracks from 1973. The BFI, Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, and Pink Floyd’s creative director Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell will judge the top 10 animated videos submitted by animators, one for each song on the album (British Film Institute).

On November 30th, 2023, submissions will be due. Click here for the contest and details.

Planetariums around the world will debut a new “whole dome experience” in March, incorporating spectacular graphics of the solar system set to Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon album. For information on showings, contact your neighbourhood planetarium.

A writer by day and reader by night, I am someone who - as soon as she graduated from high school - knew she wanted to write. How? When? where? It did not matter as long as I got to write! And every second of it has been full of learning, adventure, and excitement. I love reading, especially high fantasy, fiction, and thrillers! And when I am not reading or reviewing books on my blog, I try my hand at graphic designing for blog posts, headers, logos. Add a little bit of video editing into the mix and I'm peachy!
