Films to watch at home on Pride Day for LGTBI

June is Pride month and today is the day the LGTBI community celebrates it. This day is a good time to enjoy some of the films that best represent the feelings of LGTBI people.

Carol (2016)

This is a film starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. Both play two women who, after sending an innocent Christmas card, start a beautiful relationship. The problem is that everything takes place in the 50s and both will have to risk everything, including their unremarkable lives if they want to continue with their romance. Social pressure will test both women.

With love, Simon (2018)

20th Century Fox decided to bring an LGTBI-themed romantic comedy to theaters. It is an adaptation of the book by Becky Albertalli that tells the story of Simon Spier, who at 17 is gay, but does not dare to say so publicly. However, he meets Blue online and they both chat and exchange their feelings. All this will turn Simon’s life upside down, which will never be the same again.

Super Nerds (2019)

Nominated for the Golden Globes, this film is a perfect mix of the drama of the homosexual community and a fun youth comedy. The plot focuses on two young people, one of them a lesbian, who will test the limits of their friendship and force them to come clean. A perfect film about love, friendship, and self-acceptance, without complexes.

We only have to dance (2020)

Merab struggles to find a place in Georgia’s difficult conservative dance environment. The arrival of Irakli will mean a before and after in his career… and his life. Both will be his greatest rivals and, at the same time, his greatest objects of desire. A hypnotic story about passion and love, above the thought of any corner of society.

Pride (2015)

Another mix of drama and comedy that is a great tribute to the LGTBI community. Set during the time of Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the film takes place in a remote Welsh town, where the local miners are going on strike. When the LGTBI collective decides to support their cause and raise funds for them, the workers must overcome their barriers and accept that love is just that, love.
