Even Ke Huy Quan’s Oscar can’t take away the terror that haunts him in Hollywood

Is the current man of the moment. Ke Huy Quan begins to put his feet on the ground after winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, becoming the protagonist of the year’s most touching speech, and embracing Harrison Ford in a reunion that melted the most sentimental hearts.

For, underneath the joy and the phenomena of Everything everywhere at the same time, he is still haunted by the same worry that has plagued him his entire adult life.

Because the same industry that today praises him as a symbol of progress and tenacity denied him his dream of becoming an actor for decades. Ke Huy Quan saw jobs disappear and the phone stop ringing after Steven Spielberg’s childhood success with Indiana Jones and The Goonies. He went from having a promising career to having none at all.

He went to college, majored in film, and made a living as an assistant director and fight choreographer. Yet he was always dreaming of returning to acting one day. And it cost him a lot of money.

Thank you very much. For 30 years, he had to practise patience as his mother prayed and his wife encouraged him not to give up. And now that he has accomplished his goal by touching the sky with the golden statuette, his terror has returned. Because Ke Huy Quan will be at the top, but he will not be working on any projects.

Variety reported this in a special report dedicated to his victory. “I spoke with my agent,” he told the publication shortly after winning the Oscar. “I’m concerned that this is a one-time occurrence.” And he is correct. Because there are no assurances in Hollywood. No achievement guarantees the next.

Yet, his example is noteworthy because we are discussing a character who has been in the global spotlight for months, eliciting pity, sympathy, and intrigue through his personal narrative and accolades for his work on the Daniels film.

I mean, it’s not ridiculous to think he’d have a slew of offers by now. That all the studios and producers would be seeking to bring him on board and capitalise on the lure of his presence in a project.

Nevertheless, this is not the case. He already has three completed projects that he recorded and developed prior to the current craze. They include two television series: American Born Chinese and Loki’s second season, as well as the science fiction feature The Electric State, in which he just gives his voice, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt. According to Variety, after winning the Oscar, he “had no offers on the table.”

According to Ke Huy Quan, he spent years in the shadows of acting, blaming himself. ” They taught me not to point fingers. If something doesn’t go your way, it’s because you didn’t work hard enough, were insufficiently talented, or tried hard enough.

But when I didn’t get jobs, he blamed me: he didn’t think he was tall enough, pretty enough, or talented enough because he wasn’t classically trained. Up to this day, I have never blamed anyone “He stated.

Yet the forced obscurity and rejection of Hollywood devastated him, especially when he saw that his parents saw he was unhappy after doing so much for him, fleeing Vietnam to a refugee camp and then seeking asylum in the United States when he was only 8 years old.

“That’s why it was so terrible for me, since there was nothing I could do to encourage someone to cast me in a film or develop a great character for me. And that was one of the things I despised the most about our company “He stated.

And now he may have to wait once again. However, despite spending several months circulating throughout awards season and seeing everyone in Hollywood at parties and ceremonies (as evidenced by the famous photographs she shares on her Instagram profile), it appears that discussions regarding future projects have yet to take place.

Oscar is wearing it, but he has no idea what fate has in store for him now. He won’t be participating in the fifth and final chapter of Indiana Jones (as much as we would have loved him), and by now, worry would have started criticising him for questioning his agent about what happens next the night after the Oscars.

He even claims to have sought guidance from Cate Blanchett, citing the worry she still has after 30 years of artistic drought. He told her to follow his heart and be irresponsible, to not worry about what others say, and to pursue a subject that he is passionate about, according to Variety.

The good news is that All Everywhere simultaneously confirmed that the tables have turned for the Asian community, and he has resumed his good relationship with the audience with his likeability and professional comeback. So I doubt Hollywood won’t want to capitalise on it now more than ever.
