Daddy Yankee spoke about the conflict between the Puerto Rican rapper Residente and the Colombian reggaeton player J Balvin
A few months ago, the Puerto Rican rapper Residente starred in controversy by premiering a tirade of more than 8 minutes against the urban genre in general and specifically against the reggaeton player J Balvin.
Residente insulted and despised the Colombian’s career as an artist. However, the interpreter of ‘Qué Más Pues’ did not respond to Residente’s insults and preferred to stay out of the controversy.
As Residente’s BZRP Sessions was aimed at the music industry, several artists spoke out and expressed their opinion about it. However, Daddy Yankee, who is one of the most experienced urban artists in music, had not commented on it until now.
Recently, the “Big Boss” gave an interview for El Mollusco where he referred to many topics, including the controversy between Residente and J Balvin.
“I wish him the best for both of them and they have my respect. I know them both; With René, I have spoken many times face to face about things that we differ from, but we are always facing to face. If in the future they feel they have to fix it, I hope they do it”, said Daddy Yankee in the interview.
Daddy Yankee, who is promoting his last tour before his retirement, pointed out that these conflicts are normal in music and he did not take any side. However, he claimed that J Balvin “survived”.
“ I feel that an earthquake fell on Balvin, but he survived. Rene hit him hard, but Balvin as an artist survived. This is part of the genre; Balvin demonstrated his greatness, René was able to demonstrate his lyrical prowess, and Biza monetized ”, he said. Residente’s conflict with J Balvin began when the Colombian encouraged the other artists of the urban genre to boycott the Latin Grammy Awards for allegedly not giving enough space to the urban genre. Residents responded indignantly to J Balvin’s request, regretting that he made that call when that event would pay tribute to the legendary Panamanian salsa singer Rubén Blades.
