In 2005, Phan had a personal blog where she discussed various makeup tutorials and received requests for further instructions. Under the username Ricebunny, she started posting tutorial vlogs on Xanga and then started posting on YouTube in May 2007.

BuzzFeed featured two of Phan’s makeup tutorials from 2009 and 2010, ‘How To Get Lady Gaga’ s Eyes’, which helped them go viral and brought her over a million subscribers. In 2010, after featuring some of their products in her videos, Lancôme made Phan her official make-up video artist, making her the company’s first Vietnamese spokesperson.

MICHELLE PHAN IN COSMETICS

On August 15, 2013, L’Oreal launched Michelle Phan’s latest cosmetic line called EM Cosmetics, dedicating the brand to her mother. Phan acquired the EMC Cosmetics stake in L’Oreal through Ipsy in April 2015 and confirmed it on her Instagram in December 2016; she later she acquired the company from IPSY and relaunched it in April 2017.
