On September 20, 2015, Sippy was fatally murdered at a park in Sector 27, Chandigarh.
CBI officers detained Kalyani Singh, daughter of Himachal Pradesh High Court judge Justice Sabina, on Wednesday, almost seven years after the national-level shooter and attorney Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu, alias Sippy Sidhu, was shot dead in a park in Sector 27, Chandigarh. In addition, Justice Sabina serves as the acting Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
On September 20, 2015, Sippy was fatally shot. Four rounds were fired from a.12 bore gun during the crime. The UT Police had opened a murder investigation at the Sector 26 police station.
The case was handed to the CBI in January 2016, after which the investigative agency registered a murder complaint and began an investigation.
During the CBI inquiry, the suspected role of the judge’s daughter in the murder came to light. They wanted to gather more information, so seven months later, in September 2016, CBI sleuths issued a Rs 5 lakh reward for anyone providing a hint that could help break the case.
The CBI also published a newspaper advertisement indicating that “there is grounds to think that Sippy’s killer was accompanied by a woman at the time of the murder.” The woman in question is also given the opportunity to come forward and contact us if she is innocent. Otherwise, it will be assumed that she was a party to the crime.”
The CBI increased the reward money to Rs 10 lakh in December 2021, noting that members of the public are encouraged to come forward if they have any genuine information about the murder or any pertinent information. However, the investigative agency was unable to make any progress in the case.
In 2020, the CBI also submitted an “untraced report” in court, stating that the inquiry should be allowed to continue because it has raised significant suspicions about the role of a woman in the assassination of Sippy Sidhu.
Kalyani Singh is detained for four days by the CBI.
Meanwhile, Kalyani Singh was presented before CBI Special Judicial Magistrate Sukhdev Singh on Wednesday, who remanded her in CBI custody for four days.
During the last hearing in the case, the CBI requested a one-month extension to file a status report on the ongoing investigation into the Sippy murder.
