Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service has charged actor Kevin Spacey with four counts of sexual assault against three men, it was announced in a statement Thursday, May 26.

He was also charged with a fifth count, “causing a person to engage in non-consensual penetrative sexual activity,” related to one of the three men, said the director of the district attorney’s special crime division, Rosemary Ainslie.

The alleged incidents took place in London between March 2005 and August 2008, and in Gloucestershire in April 2013.

The charges include two sexual assaults against a man (referred to as plaintiff number 1) and one against “plaintiff number 2”, who also accuses him of making him participate in a penetrative activity without consent.

The victims are now in their 30s and 40s.

Ainslie specifies in the note that the charges are attributed to him after reviewing the data collected in an investigation by the London Metropolitan Police, also known as Scotland Yard.

“The charges follow a review of evidence collected by the Metropolitan Police in their investigation. The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr. Spacey are active and that he is entitled to a fair trial”, meaning that only a court can eventually determine his innocence or guilt.

The prosecutor also warned that it is “very important” that no information be disseminated in the press or on the Internet that could raise prejudices about this case.

Spacey has long been under investigation by British authorities following more than 20 allegations of sexual assault against the actor during his tenure at the Old Vic Theater in London.
