The ‘5G Gaming Arena’ project exhibits the potential of 5G in video game competitions at MWC

‘5G Gaming Arena’ is the project presented this Tuesday by the MEDIAPRO Group (through LVP), Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) and Telefónica with the aim of demonstrating the capabilities of the 5G network applied to the ‘eSports’ sector and of ‘gaming’.

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) fair has hosted the ‘5G Wild Rift Cup’ and ‘Dirt 5 Time Trials Challenge’ competitions, two live demonstrations that have allowed users to experience the highest bandwidth, network speed and low latency of 5G technology.

Gaming on 5G

In ‘5G Wild Rift Cup’, held in collaboration with Riot Games and Samsung, ten players (between ‘influencers’ and ‘proplayers’) have faced each other in a game of League of Legends: Wild Rift, one of the most popular mobile video games popular at the moment with terminals connected to the conventional 5G network.

The demonstration took place in four different locations: the MWCapital and Telefónica stand at the MWC22 site, the Movistar eSports Center in Madrid and the 5G laboratory of the 5G Ponent Area located in the Lleida Chamber of Commerce.

For its part, ‘Dirt 5 Time Trials Challenge’ has held an individual time trial on the circuits of the Dirt 5 video game with Samsung 5G mobile terminals through the official platform of the GHME Europe event, promoted by the Big C, which uses advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, ‘blockchain’ technology and ‘big data’.

This test sought to demonstrate the potential of 5G for cloud gaming, that is, in which the game is not downloaded to the terminal but played directly from an online platform, such as Xbox Cloud Gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
