Sony announces a mini version of the first PlayStation console

The console will be released in Japan, the United States and Europe on December 3 and is 45% smaller than the original.

The Japanese multinational of electronics and video games Sony announced today that it will launch the PlayStation Classic, a ‘mini’ version of its iconic console that was released almost a quarter of a century ago, and that will come with 20 pre-installed games.

The platform, which will be released in Japan, the United States and Europe on December 3, is 45% smaller than the original console launched on the Japanese market on the same date in 1994 and will include two controls, an HDMI cable and a cable. Sony follows in the footsteps of its competitor Nintendo, which successfully launched its NES Classic and Super NES Classic (Famicom Mini and Super Famicom Mini in Japan), in November 2016 and October 2017, respectively.

The first PlayStation went on the market on December 3, 1994 and ceased production in March 2006.

With sales of over 102 million copies, the iconic consolo is the fourth best sold in history after its successor, the PlayStation 2 (PS2), which accumulates more than 155 million, and the DS and Game Boy / Game Boy Color laptops of Nintendo.
