Instagram announced that the IGTV application will cease to exist

The platform assured that there will continue to be videos but that they will all focus on the main app: IG through Reels or Reels

Instagram, from Meta, definitively says goodbye to the IGTV app. Although that does not mean that he will say goodbye to the option of videos, but that he will dedicate himself to investing entirely in Reels or Reels.

Probably all users have seen IGTV videos within Instagram at some time assuming that it was part of it, however, it was a secondary application to share videos on Instagram.

The application was born in 2018 and this 2022 will say goodbye so that the creators focus solely on making videos (Reels) within Instagram. Through a statement, the platform reported that they are looking for videos to be the simplest to create and discover, which indicates that it may no longer venture into videos of up to an hour in length to compete with YouTube.

Although the application will cease to exist, the videos will continue to be available within Instagram, with the option to view them on full screen and touch to mute. Also, the developers are working on sharing the different types of videos (like Reels).

The new modality would also be looking to help content creators generate more income (in an easier way), through ads on the reels.

“[We are] going to test a new ad experience on Instagram, which will allow creators to monetize ads displayed on their reels.”

It is worth remembering that before making this decision, Instagram would have tried several strategies to capture the attention of users in its secondary app. In 2020, it removed the feature that took the user to IGTV content in the main application due to few people using it, in addition, last year they announced that it would change the name to “Instagram TV” and that the duration of IGTV videos would also come. to regular videos.

As mentioned before, the disappearance of IGTV, along with In-Stream ads, does not mean that the intentions of competing with videos will disappear.

“We think this makes it easy for people to have all these features and abilities in the main app, and we’re excited to continue simplifying and improving video in the main Instagram app in the coming months,” Instagram said.

The blog post announcing IGTV’s retirement is titled “Continuing our investment in the video on Instagram,” and last year, the Instagram leader said it was no longer a photo app, but instead was going after competitors like TikTok and YouTube. in an attempt to become mainstream entertainment.

Changes To Come

The platform said that as they make Reels a more central part of the Instagram experience beginning in March, there will be a few updates that will primarily benefit creators.

In addition to bonuses, later this year creators will be allowed to earn revenue from ads displayed on their reels.

Finally, with the removal of In-Stream Ads, creators who are already monetizing with In-Stream Ads will receive a temporary monthly payment based on their recent earnings.

They ensure that short and entertaining videos allow inspiring trends, and express themselves in a more flexible “and fun” way that manages to promote “culture”, so they will continue to battle to be the competition of TikTok and win over more creators.
