How to prevent the memory from filling up with the photos and videos you receive on WhatsApp?

Sometimes, without realizing it, the memory of our smartphones fills up. One of the main reasons why this happens is due to the daily use of WhatsApp, the main instant messaging application and the most used in the world.

The WhatsApp app is one of the most used to send and receive photos and videos, with which family friends immortalize moments to always remember them. There are also those who send a lot of memes to the groups, to share and laugh a good time.

The problem generated by image and clip files is that, if they accumulate, they make the memory of smartphones fill up, collapse the functions of the devices and could even prevent WhatsApp from being used correctly.

When the app is installed for the first time, all downloaded media files are automatically scheduled to be saved in the phone’s gallery, since the “Media files visibility” option of each individual or group chat is activated by default.

However, there is a very useful way to disable that option, so that photos and videos are not automatically downloaded and saved on the phone. They will simply remain in the WhatsApp chat.

How to prevent the memory from filling up with the photos and videos you receive by WhatsApp

To prevent the multimedia files you receive in all WhatsApp chats and groups from being saved, follow the steps below.

On android:

  1. Select the button in the upper right corner with the three dots
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Select Chats
  4. Disable the “Visibility of media files” option

On iOS:

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Go to chat
  3. Disable Save to Photos

It is also possible that some chats or groups, in particular, do not have this option activated, or on the contrary, that they do have it activated. Here are the steps to follow:

On android:

  1. Enter the chat or group
  2. Click on the name of the contact or group
  3. Go to Visibility of media files
  4. Select Default, Yes or No.

On iOS:

  1. Enter the chat or group
  2. Click on the name of the contact or group
  3. Select Save to Photos and choose Default, Always, or Never.

In this way, the files received by WhatsApp will not reach the memory of your smartphone, and it will only save the photos and videos of the contact or group that you want.
