A Tesla collided with a $3.5 million jet; there was no one on board the electric because it was summoned from afar

We have seen all kinds of scandals involving Tesla vehicles, from those in which drivers irresponsibly let go of the steering wheel and ride in the back, to those in which there were unfortunately human losses.

Now, the most recent is about a Model X crashing into a Cirrus Vision jet with a value of 3.5 million dollars. At the time of the incident, the electric car had the “Smart Summon” feature turned on, which allows Tesla to navigate around obstacles toward its owner.

Smart Summon works using only the Tesla app, from where the car can be “summoned” up to a maximum distance of 60 meters, as long as the electric one is within its line of sight.

The incident was captured on video, which was shared on Reddit, where the user who posted it said that he also owns a Tesla Model Y, but that he was not “the poor soul (with poor decision-making ability) who summoned his Tesla around several expensive planes, only to crash into the most expensive ($3,500,000)!”.

A controversial viral function

Smart Summon was first enabled in 2019, and ever since, Tesla owners have started posting videos. At the time, Elon Musk described Smart Summon as “Tesla’s most viral feature”.

And yes, but not exactly because of its innovativeness, but because just a week after launch, the feature had already been used more than 550,000 times and owners posted some videos of electricians crashing or nearly causing accidents while testing Smart Summon.

In a way, this was Tesla’s first truly “self-driving” feature, as it can be used without anyone inside the electric car.
