Red Bull did not include a second driver clause in Checo Pérez’s contract

With the debate about the role that Sergio Pérez plays in Red Bull, one of the questions that were repeated before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was how his new contract was configured and if there were clauses in which he had to reduce his performance to benefit Max Verstappen, something he completely ruled out.

“We don’t talk about that. There’s nothing in my contract that mandates me to finish second or anything like that. That is not part of my contract extension’, assured Checo Pérez to RaceFans, feeling that he adds to what was said in recent days by Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, who see the speed and perseverance that both pilots can have as the only difference.  Pérez insisted on his renewal, which occurs with barely a third of the season elapsed, a fact that has the Guadalajara man pleased, who is calmer with what may come, something he had not experienced before when he used to renew year with year.

“As a driver,  you want to get rid of that stress as quickly as possible . The sooner you can sign up, the better, so,” said the driver himself.

“It takes a lot of energy and focus to give it your all every weekend. Then you don’t want to think about it. That’s why it was good to come to an agreement so soon ,” he concluded.  Checo Pérez was the second fastest driver in the second free practice , only behind Charles Leclerc, while in the first he was ahead of everyone.
