Zuckerberg refuses to appear before the British Parliament because of the data leak
The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, will not appear before the Parliament of the United Kingdom due to the scandal of the data leakage of millions of users to the political consultancy Cambridge Analytica and, however, has chosen to delegate this responsibility.
The British Parliament’s Committee on Digital Affairs, Culture, Media and Sports had asked Zuckerberg whether he or someone else in the company would personally clarify all the variables of this scandal. The founder of the social network has responded by offering as appearing to his technology chief, Mike Schroepfer, or his product manager, Chris Cox.
The parliamentary committee has responded by noting that, despite this first response, he would still like to hear Zuckerberg’s own version
A spokeswoman for Facebook in the United Kingdom, Rebecca Stimson, has affirmed that the firm recognizes “the public and parliamentary interest” of the subject and supports that they be approached by those who are in a position of power within the highest levels of the company ” “As such, Mr. Zuckerberg has personally asked one of his deputies to make himself available to testify in person before the commission,” he explained.
The parliamentary committee has responded by noting that, despite this first response, they would still like to hear Zuckerberg’s version, either in a new additional session or via video conference. The businessman already apologized last week for the leak and promised stricter controls to restrict developers’ access to personal information.
