Zelenskyy named seven countries that are ready to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine

The points of the future agreement should be discussed at a special meeting, the President of Ukraine believes.

Seven countries are ready to discuss the content of an international agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine.

This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview.

“The United States, Great Britain, Turkey, Poland, Germany, France, Israel – these are not all guarantors, but I named those countries that are ready to come and discuss the list of security guarantees. Therefore, this is the first step. Meeting with these guarantors, then – a joint understanding of security guarantees, and then communication with the Russian side,” he said.

According to him, some countries are ready to fully support Ukraine, and some are not, so a meeting at the level of advisers and discussion of the points of a potential document is necessary.

He is sure that this meeting will definitely take place because it was confirmed by representatives of the future guarantor states.

According to him, a meeting with the guarantors or representatives of these leaders, then a joint understanding of security guarantees will be the first step, and the second will be communication with the Russian side.

“It is very important for us what kind of guarantees these countries agree to. They have different views. Some agree to everything, to full support, and some not to full. Therefore, we need a joint meeting with these countries at the level of advisers who will talk about this document – the future guarantees of our sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. When we see that this is acceptable to us, that we feel confident in the future, and not like with the Budapest Memorandum or with other documents that we had in past, but which do not work. After that, we will have a meeting with Russia,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that the organization and preparation of the meeting will take some time, but it will not be long, because Ukraine cannot wait, because it is on its territories that the war with Russia is going on and it is the Ukrainians who are dying.

“Therefore, we must carry out this meeting in the near future and also in the near future – and a meeting with Russia,” the head of state added.

Earlier it was also reported that Ukraine proposed to sign an International Treaty on a new system of security guarantees for it. Among the guarantors, official Kyiv sees the member countries of the UN Security Council, including Russia, the USA, Great Britain, China, France, as well as Turkey, Germany, Canada, Italy, Poland, and Israel.

At the same time, President Zelenskyy said earlier that the United States does not agree to provide security guarantees in the form requested by Ukraine.
