Ukraine president imposes martial law over Russian operation, calls for calm

The President of Ukraine , Volodymyr Zelensky , imposed this Thursday (local time) martial law throughout the country after the beginning of a military operation by Russia.

In his message, he noted that Russia launched attacks on Ukrainian military infrastructure and border guards.

The president asked the Ukrainians to remain calm and stay at home after the start of the Russian operation in the east of the country.

In addition, he assured today that he had spoken by phone with the president of the United States, Joe Biden, who would have promised him “international support.”

The Ukrainian ambassador to the Security Council of the United Nations Organization (UN), Sergiy Kyslytsya, said that Russia must “stop the war”.

 

For his part, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitri Kuleba said that Ukraine will defend itself from the large-scale invasion that Russia has just announced and that it will win.

Ahead of the implementation of Martial Law , Ukraine declared a state of emergency and asked its citizens in Russia to leave the country, while Moscow began to evacuate its embassy in Kiev.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a military operation in Ukraine and urged that country’s soldiers to lay down their arms, defying global calls to avoid war.

In a message on national television, he warned that whoever tries to intervene in the conflict will have consequences “never experienced in its entire history.”

He assured that Russia cannot feel safe, develop and exist with the constant threat coming from the Ukrainian territory.
