Stop from 1 June to the green pass to enter Italy, masks only on transport after half a month

The Minister of Health will not extend the ordinance that provides for the obligation to show the basic green pass (vaccine, healing or tampon) for those entering Italy, valid until May 31st.

The summer for Italians and tourists who decide to spend their holidays in our country is eased by the latest restrictions against Covid. Health Minister Roberto Speranza will not extend again the ordinance which provides for the obligation to show the basic green pass (vaccine or tampon) for those entering Italy, currently valid until 31 May. From 1 June, therefore, goodbye to the green certificate for those traveling to Italy. In the meantime, June 15 is approaching when the obligation to wear a mask should also drop in cinemas, theaters, and indoor shows. But the obligation could remain for transport, at least long-distance ones

Towards stop a green pass from 1st June for those arriving in Italy

The first simplification for tourists and all arrivals in our country had already started at the end of April when Minister Speranza had canceled the obligation to fill in the “Passenger Locator Form” (Plf), the document introduced in the summer of 2021 to regulate departures. The Plf had to contain all the information necessary to locate the traveler in case of any contagion from Covid during the move. At the time, however, Minister Speranza had extended the obligation to possess the basic green pass, which is obtained with vaccination but also with a negative swab, until May 31st. Now the idea is to abolish this latest fulfillment from 1 June, renouncing a new extension, to favor the resumption of tourism that is entering in these weeks in full season not only with full cities of art.

Green certificates abolished in most EU countries

The digital Covid certificate is still mandatory to enter Germany, France, Spain, and Portugal. But the majority of EU countries have now eliminated anti-Covid restrictions. To enter Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Ireland, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Greece, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland, Switzerland, or Luxembourg travelers are not required to provide more proof of vaccination, recovery from Covid or a negative test.

No more masks in cinemas and theaters from mid-June

Also on June 15, as mentioned, when the obligation to wear a mask should fall even in most places where the obligation still exists: cinemas, theaters, and indoor shows. The obligation could remain for transport, at least long-distance ones such as high-speed trains and airplanes. Just as it should remain in hospitals and RSA.

Maturity with mask, goal away from next year

If from May 1st, masks are no longer mandatory in bars, restaurants, and stadiums, they will still be mandatory in the classroom until the end of the school year and therefore also for high school and eighth-grade exams. The ministry hopes to start the next school year, in September, without masks.

The knot of obligation in private workplaces

The situation in private workplaces is more uncertain, where the anti-Covid security protocol has been extended until June 30, which provides for the obligation to wear a mask in shared environments. The protocol will be updated at the end of the month. It will be up to the social partners, in agreement with the government, to decide whether to extend the obligation or adapt, for example, to the rules in force in public offices where the use of FFP2 masks is only recommended.
