Russian diplomats expelled from Austria
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria announced the decision to expel Russian diplomats from their country.
Four diplomats from Russia must leave Austria no later than April 12. According to the decision of the Foreign Ministry, three employees of the Russian Embassy in Vienna and one employee of the Consulate General in Salzburg were deprived of diplomatic status.
“This is due to the fact that their activities did not correspond to their diplomatic status. Therefore, they were declared persona non grata in accordance with Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the Austrian Foreign Ministry said.
Russian diplomats are massively expelled from European countries. Earlier, a similar decision was reported in a number of European countries, including France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Greece, Denmark, Italy, and others. Dozens of employees of Russian embassies are being expelled from different countries.
The fact that Berlin intends to expel Russian diplomats became known on April 2. It is known in intelligence circles that Russia is holding a large number of unofficial intelligence officers in Berlin. Lithuania recalls its ambassador from Moscow and closes the Russian consulate in Klaipeda. The Russian ambassador will also have to leave Lithuania.
